Commercial Kitchen Cleaning for Takeaways & Fast Food

TR19 extraction cleaning for takeaway kitchens across Cumbria and the Northwest. Heavy frying operations require quarterly cleaning. We keep you compliant, insured, and fire-safe all year round.

If your kitchen uses fryers, TR19 classifies it as heavy use. Annual cleaning is not enough

Takeaway kitchens operating fryers, woks, or chargrills for extended hours require cleaning every 3 months under TR19. An annual certificate does not satisfy your insurer or the fire authority if your usage pattern demands quarterly cleans.

BESCA VHR: The Certificate Your Insurer Requires

UK commercial kitchen insurers specifically require TR19 cleaning by a BESCA VHR accredited contractor. Without our certificate, a fire claim from a grease-related incident may be rejected, regardless of how recent your last clean was.

The Highest Fire Risk in Commercial Kitchens

Takeaway kitchens using fryers and woks generate more airborne grease than any other catering environment. That grease accumulates in your extraction system and becomes a significant fire hazard without quarterly TR19 cleaning.

Overnight & Early Morning Slots Available

We work around your trading hours. Most takeaway cleans are completed overnight so you open the next day fully compliant with no disruption to your service. A new TR19 certificate is issued before we leave.

Why Takeaway Kitchens Face the Highest TR19 Risk

TR19 defines cleaning frequency based on cooking method and daily operating hours. Takeaways using deep fryers, woks, or chargrills for 12 or more hours a day are classified as heavy use, the highest category under TR19. That means quarterly cleaning is required, not annually.

Many takeaway operators are unaware of this distinction and have only an annual clean on their schedule. If your insurer or a fire officer assesses your extraction system and the grease deposits exceed the 200 micron limit, the fact that you had a certificate at some point in the past will not protect you.

We set up a quarterly rolling programme from the start, issue a new certificate after every clean, and remind you when the next one is due. You stay permanently compliant with no administration required on your part.

200µm: the limit that matters

TR19 permits a maximum of 200 microns of grease deposit. We measure and document grease depth on every visit. If your system is already borderline, we'll identify it at the site visit and advise on immediate action.

Takeaway & Fast Food Types We Work With

Any kitchen with heavy frying, wok cooking, or chargrilling requires quarterly TR19 cleaning. We cover them all.

Fish & Chip Shops

The highest-risk extraction environment. Open fryers running for 8 or more hours daily demand quarterly TR19 cleaning and rigorous grease deposit management.

Chinese, Indian & Asian Kitchens

Wok cooking produces significant airborne grease. Combined with other cooking methods, these kitchens typically qualify as heavy use under TR19.

Burger, Pizza & Fast Food

Chargrills and fryers used for extended hours generate substantial extraction grease. We assess your specific setup and confirm the correct cleaning frequency.

Frequently Asked Questions: Takeaways

How often does a takeaway need TR19 extraction cleaning?
Under TR19, heavy-use kitchens (those using fryers, woks, or chargrills for 12 or more hours a day) require cleaning every 3 months. Most takeaways fall into this category. We confirm the correct frequency for your specific operation at the site visit and document our assessment in writing.
What happens if I only get an annual clean?
If your kitchen qualifies as heavy use under TR19 but only receives annual cleaning, your TR19 certificate is based on a non-compliant cleaning schedule. In the event of a fire, your insurer can use this to void your claim. A licensing review could also flag the non-compliance. Quarterly cleaning under a rolling programme is the correct approach, and the one we set up from the start.
Can you work overnight so we don't lose trading hours?
Yes. Overnight cleaning is our standard approach for takeaway clients. We typically arrive after your last service and complete the work before your opening time the following day. You open to a clean, compliant kitchen with a new TR19 certificate already issued.
Do you measure grease depth on every visit?
Yes. We take and document grease depth readings on every clean. TR19 permits a maximum of 200 microns of deposit. We record actual readings throughout your extraction system and include them in the compliance report. This is what a fire officer or insurer will look for if there is an incident.
What areas do you cover?
Based in Ulverston, we cover the whole of Cumbria, Lancashire, and the wider Northwest. Call us on 01229 588556 to confirm we cover your location.
